Our cabin visit

Excerpts from our cabin journal, January 19 - 21, 2007

We arrived at the cabin about 8:00 and had grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner. It didn't take us long to unpack, and get a fire going, thanks to Jacob and Andy's wood cutting, splitting and stacking last weekend.

Boy, howdy, the sheets were cold!! Dad kept getting up to stoke the fire so it was nice and toasty sometime in the night--but he didn't get much sleep.

....Andy and Jacob --next time you are making fresh tracks in the snow, shorten your steps, please. I had a hard time walking in your tracks.

Dad did some repair work in the garage where a chipmunk had eaten on a cord. I think it will always be a challenge to stay ahead of those little rascals. He also put in a Lazy Susan under the kitchen counter and a drawer in the kitchen.

On Sunday, Dad was outside early, watching daybreak, walking around, taking pictures and enjoying the beauty of the cold, early morning.

On the way out on Sunday, we found the leftovers of a little campfire in the middle of the road at the top of a long hill. There is also a turnaround at the top and the bottom of the hill. That hill is going to be a perfect sledding area for Ian and the rest of us not too many winters from now. I'm thinking it might not be a good idea for this Grandma to do too much sledding, but I can keep the fire going, or be a driver for coming back up the hill.

It was a good weekend, time to relax and spend time with one another. We ate when we were hungry, slept when we were tired, and did whatever we wanted to do, whenever we wanted to do it! :o)

Well it's a good thing you did whatever you wanted to when you wanted to. That sure made mine and Jakes trip fun and definitely relaxing. It's nice to know there is wildlife around. Maybe not the friendly type but I'm sure we'll see some of those soon enough. Well it's time to call it a day.
peace out
andy
